Microsoft Corp has demanded that Samsung Electronics Co Ltd pay $15 for each smartphone handset it makes based on Google Inc’s Android operating system as the software giant has a wide range of patents used in the mobile platform, local media reported on Wednesday.

Microsoft has been asserting that Android operating system is violating Microsoft’s patents. Previously Microsoft went after HTC to sign patent deal over Android phones. Microsoft also sued Motorola over Android phones.

Recently Microsoft also claims that Google’s Chrome OS is violating its patents.

This is not the first time Microsoft going after Open Source Software. Microsoft was asserting patent ownership on Linux operating system and signed a deal with Novell.

ForeSee Results and ESET previously issued challenges against Lodsys’ patent portfolio.

Lodsys has filed lawsuits against numbers of iOS and Android developers. Apple has filed motion to intervene on Lodsys Patent Lawsuit against iOS Developers. Apple and Google are licensees of Lodsys’ patent portfolio, and might be contractually barred from challenging Lodsys’ patents.

If you currently have a private profile but you do not wish to make your profile public, you can delete your profile. Or, you can simply do nothing. All private profiles will be deleted after July 31, 2011.

That’s more like it. I’ve deleted my personal Google Profile anyway.

Good move, Google. I just remembered to delete my Google Profile, the personal one. I do have a different account that has no personal information other than my professional experience.

Let’s take a look at part of my to-do-list:

• Delete personal Google Profile – done
• Not joining Google+ – done

These are the currently available services from Amazon, Google and Apple respectively. The more the merrier as long as they do not make me spend more money.

Q: Why did Lodsys sue some App Developers on May 31, 2011?

Lodsys chose to move its litigation timing to an earlier date than originally planned, in response to Apple’s threat, in order to preserve its legal options.

Lodsys also sent Legal threats to Android Developers regarding in-app-purchasing patent.

Lodsys revealed that Apple, Google and Microsoft are already licensee of Lodsys’ patent portfolio. Apple, Google and Microsoft could seek to invalidate Lodsys patent.

For some reason, this is what the iPhone 4 thinks of Lodsys:

On May 23rd, 2011 Apple Legal sent a letter to Lodsys stating that Apple is licensed to all four patents in the Lodsys portfolio. Any iOS Applications published in iTunes App Store are essentially covered by the license.

Android Developers are hoping Google to do the same with what Apple did for its Developers.

To my recollection, there are less than a handful of Android devices running version 2.3.4 (and above) including Nexus One, Nexus S and Nexus S 4G. The upcoming Motorola Droid X2 will come with Android 2.2 Froyo.
